3D Hand Drawings

This art project is fun and simple yet creates a neat 3D effect that looks complex.

Step 1: First place your hand on the paper at an angle, then trace lightly with a pencil.

Step 2: With a black crayon or marker (fine point markers work best) freehand draw straight lines across the paper, except when you get to a pencil line “bump” the line until the next pencil line and then continue going straight.

Step 3: Keep drawing straight {or curved} lines until you have filled up your paper, making sure you “bump” every time you get to a pencil line. The closer the lines are to each other the better the illusion. See more 3D hand illusions here.

Have fun creating 3D images of other objects by tracing cookie cutters of hearts, leaves, stars, etc.

They live on a 4,000 acre alfalfa farm nestled in a small Northern Nevada valley. They’ve been homeschooling for 11+ years. Montserrat enjoys, photography, cooking, crafting, chocolate, and sloppy goodnight kisses. She strives to live each day as God would have her do following Mary’s biblical supplication, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” (Luke 1:38) You can find her at her blog Chocolate On My Cranium.

  1. This is so funny, I love the way you write Alex! I am not too superstitious but the few times I have had rndoam important dreams, they always come true. Weird, I know, shades of your mom. And I talked to an angel in the form of a drunk guy in a bar the night before my dad passed away. Again, weird. But true.Hope you are feeling better!xo Mary Jo

  2. I would like to do some art that is related to this and need the artist reference… Could you tell me if “Montserrat Wadsworth” is the artist?

    Thank you!
